Sadness is when you need to euthanize something that has been around for centuries. The oak on our land with a stem thickness of about 2 meters, it was halfway rotten from 75cm to 2m. Its roots were firm in the ground, but in heavy winds the crown of the tree swayed dangerously.
Instead of being a house to birds, insects and a comforting shade for plants and animals, it had become a hazard for its surrounding. If it would break in a south westerly wind, we would have our neighbours at the front door with a claim,,,,,,, or not. So we called in the help of an expert.
It showed that the tree would not have broken the next decade, but that was after we could do an autopsy. There were lot of dead branches . All in all a sad day.
